Local artists unite for the sake of fashion

I was invited to attend this fashion show in April, and I am super excited. Check out the press release below. Of course I will have photos!!

On April 7, 2012, the Des Moines Social Club will be exploring new entertainment territory by hosting a fashion show for the first time in its 5 year existence. This particular show, titled “LOVE: The Naissance of Fashion Rock,” is a concept from Lion’s Roar Entertainment that will bring together various talent from the Des Moines Metro Area such as Vitae Fashion Collective, Vaj of Courage, Dames ‘n’ Chains, Heather’s Haberdashery, Ladysoal, Photobomb Studios, Body by Svec, La Bella Figura, and Madison Ray and All the Single Ladies.

Ames radio personality Benny Black described Madison Ray as “definitely a unique artist when it comes to the state of Iowa.” Ray developed his skills under the tutelage of John Contardo of ShaNaNa in California and refined his craft in the Tokyo club scene. He has been performing in Des Moines with his band All the Single Ladies since the summer of 2011. The owner of La Bella Figura, Elena Flores, has worked all over the nation as a costumer and wardrober, including Ohio Light Opera and Arena Stage of Washington, DC. She has also studied and practiced fashion in Milan, including consulting with knitwear designer Ilze Godlevskis and clothing designer Roberta Furlanetto. Locally, she has served as a stylist for Body by Svec, which is directed and coordinated by Emily Svec. Svec has painted over 150 men and women in her 7 years of body painting. She has created outstanding work in Des Moines at the Glaza Studio, the 80/35 music festival, and the Des Moines Social Club. Her designs have also been featured in 515, Juice, and Core magazines. These are just some of the incredible artists that have come together for “LOVE: The Naissance of Fashion Rock.” This project began with collaboration between Madison Ray and Elena Flores to create a new fashion line. Ray envisioned a casual style that embodied his drive, his passion, and his energy while Flores had the experience and know-how to actualize Ray’s vision. With the aid of Lion’s Roar Entertainment, Flores and Ray planned a show that reflected the nature of their own partnership; an event that is part fashion show and part rock concert. They wanted to create an excellent exhibit, thus they recruited other local artists, musicians, and designers of the appropriate caliber. Even local businesses, like Nelly’s Ville Hair Salon, are getting involved. “LOVE” is going to be held in the Kirkwood Ballroom on April 7th, 2012. The doors open at 7 PM and the show starts at 8. Advance tickets can be purchased, starting March 7th, at www.midwestix.com for $25, $30 at the door.

Madison Ray had this to say, “Everything we do, we do for love.”

Lion’s Roar Entertainment was founded in 2010 to provide young, talented artists with opportunities to express themselves un-hindered and further develop their capabilities through collaboration. The company is dedicated to the growth and improvement of artistic minds to positively affect popular culture.
