Artist Spotlight: Michelle of CreatureType

Hi Koi Story readers! My name is Michelle, blogger at CreatureType, and this is the culmination of my manic, childhood creativity. The Big Book of Cats.

The Big Book of Cats is a sort of encyclopedia of anthropomorphic cat girls. In 1998, I was 11 years old and decided to make a 200 page encyclopedia of anthropomorphic cat girls. I drew each girl and listed a bizarre survey of personal information about them--name, age, eye color, fur and hair color, home state, and even their paw prints. Kids are so weird.

Although I tried to hide the book very deeply in the junk piles of my childhood bedroom, I couldn't bare to actually part with it. I knew one day I would be able to look back and enjoy the hilarity and besides that--I actually finished this thing. All 200 pages! For me, a chronic procrastinator and lazy bum, that is incredible. To this day, The Big Book of Cats is one of the only illustration projects I've ever seen to completion.

The Big Book of Cats is now a weekly illustration project on my blog. In August, I made a vow to honor this horrific piece of literature and redraw every cat girl and post a new drawing along with the original for the internet's amusement!

You can check out all the girls so far here and follow along with each new drawing every Wednesday on CreatureType!

I think Michelle is a wonderful and talented illustrator and I fell in love with her Big Book of Cats project that she has been working on and I thought you all would enjoy it! Hope you did.

This is what I wore yesterday! I love this checkered shirt dress I thrifted. It even had the tags attached! It's so easy to style, and I can already think of ways to remix it.

So, today should have been a complete snow day for me. There were over 200 school closings, but my school of course chose not to. I'm still trying to decide whether or not it's worth the drive. We shall see!

Anyways, I'm already starting to get pretty busy with schoolwork. It's all exciting and stressful at the same time. I want to make this my best semester yet and it's my last chance honestly since it's my last semester and all.

Tell me about a favorite thrift find of yours, or a snow day story!

Say hello to the newest intern at Paste Apparel! I'm really excited about this opportunity. I will provide more details at a later time. Anyways, this is what I wore on my first day of school, well my last first day of school for undergrad anyways! It feels pretty good. I decided to lay my clothes out a week in advance to save myself from indecision. It's working pretty well so far!

What do you do to keep organized?

I can't believe I start school tomorrow! This is been a long b

reak, but now that it's ended, I feel like it never began. Doesn't it always feel that way? I'm ready to go back and finish though!

This is my first ever Dear Creatures dress and definitely not my last. I love the neutral colors and the beautiful collar. It is just so well-made and perfect. I can't wait to style it again already!

My boyfriend, his family, family friends and I went to see Book of Mormon today! If you get a chance to see it, you better take it. It definitely lived up to all the hype.

Oh, and last night I got the chance to go to the Savior Magazine launch here locally. The magazine was beautiful done. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of it. Silly me, I forgot my camera, so the only souvenir we have is this photo of me and my friend.

Have you seen any musicals lately? Tell me about them!

This is a little something I have been working on recently. I like being able to see my process, from the photo that inspired me to the sketch to the different iterations and the final image. I think I want to continue making patterns and some online art.

I hope that one day soon I will learn to screen print, because I think I could make some really cool things. I want to finally be able to start my own shop to sell some things.

Oh, and if you follow me on instagram, you know that today is Day one of a juice fast that I am doing to cleanse my body. This will probably be a 5 day fast, unless somehow I decide to go for longer! My last juice fast was about four days, so this shouldn't be too bad!

Do you have a favorite cardigan!? Tell me about it!
